After 12 years of dreaming of “Poetic Justice” against Uruguay in the World Cup after the infamous Luiz Suarez incident in 2010, Ghana fell short of character as Uruguay put two goals pass the Black Stars.
Despite Uruguay’s victory over Ghana, both teams were eliminated from the World Cup, negating Luis Suarez’s valiant efforts.
The Black Stars displayed another shambolic performance in the first half of the game – similar to that chaotic performance against Portugal in the group opener.
The Uruguayan striker, who earlier didn’t see the need to apologize for the 2010 incident haunted the West African side as he contributed significantly to both of his country’s goals. However, his efforts couldn’t do any good for his country as he broke down in tears after the game.
Giorgio de Arrascaeta scored both goals, the first a beautiful volley and the second a close-range header.
In the other game in Group H, South Korea defeated group champion Portugal 2-1 to advance in second place.
South Korea and Uruguay both finished with a goal difference of zero, although the Asian team scored a total of four goals in their three games, while the South American team only managed to score two against Ghana.
