Y 97.9 FM’s versatile and energetic Haruna Babangida has been adjudged the ‘Reggae Program Host of the year’ at the just ended Western Radio and TV Personality (WRTP) awards in Takoradi.
The awards scheme which seeks to celebrate and honour radio and television personalities in the western part of Ghana and personalities across the country was held at the Auditorium of the Takoradi Technical University on 10th December 2021.
Haruna Babangida who is the host of the most listened to reggae show in Takoradi ‘Reggae Republic’ surpassed notable Reggae show hosts in the west like Big Zooley Sister Pama, Ras Code, Makamani, Kisi Kantious, DJ Kingship, Alaska Joe Jnr, Murphy De Selector and Don Sticker to be pronounced as the winner.
In an appreciation post on his Facebook page, Babangida expressed his gratitude to his listeners and everyone who supported and contributed to the success he had chalked.
“To all who contributed a dime and time to this win, give thanks, honour and Respek. It’s our win… Reggae Show Host of the Year 2021,” the post read.
Programs Manager at Y 97.9 FM, Agyekum Gyimah could not hide his joy for Haruna Babangida’s win and urged him to yearn for more for himself and YFM as well.
“I am very happy and proud of Haruna Babangida, and to all who voted for him, we are grateful. I will urge him to keep his head and strive for more honours for himself and the YFM family,” he said.
Haruna Babangida is known on the radio for his current affairs programs flown on the wings of reggae music. His use of the popular genre to address sociopolitical issues and African history has earned him a lot of admiration over the years, making him a household name. He plays to entertain, inform and educate. He is passion-driven, and this is evident in the delivery of his programs and his quest to influence society in the right direction is his prime objective on the radio.
