Fans of Uptown Energy Record Label signed artist Yaa Pono also known as Ponobiom were left dejected after the artist was prevented from performing at the Cape Coast Sports stadium over the weekend.
Billed to perform alongside dancehall artist Shatta Wale, Medikal, Renner, Kahpun, Orkortor Perry, Pope Skinny, Boggy Wenzday and others, Yaa Pono who left Kumasi early Saturday morning with great excitement hoping to create a much stronger bond with his fans in Cape Coast but this was eventually shattered as he was prevented from performing.
Responding to a tweep as to why he did not perform despite his presence in Cape Coast, he revealed he was prevented from performing.
Speaking to www.nydjlive.com, Yaa Pono explained his exclusion from the performance list was an act of cowardice by the organizers.
“We left Tamale for Kumasi and later flew in to Cape Coast hoping to put up a great show but eventually, the organizers put up an act of cowardice by disallowing us from performing. I’m sure they were scared we will take over the show since the people of Cape Coast like me more than any other act and were calling for me.”
Yaa Pono would however not mention any name as to who exactly caused this act.
Asked if any reason has been giving by organizers as to why he was prevented from performing, Yaa Pono revealed saying,
“We are still in Cape Coast as we speak and no one has said anything to us”.
The concert which eventually saw the largest turnout in event history in Cape Coast is said to have been organized by Shatta Movement Family.
It is however surprising that any organizer would foot the bill of an artist including hotel and transport only to deny him access from performing.
Attempts to reach organizers of the concert has since proven futile.
Yaa Pono is set to embark on regional music tour .
