Ghana’s leading urban radio station, YFM, and the US-based Captain Planet Foundation successfully conducted a beach clean-up at Akoma Village in Accra on Friday, December 13, 2024. The event was part of a broader environmental initiative preparing young activists for the upcoming Planeteer Alliance and Tide Turners policy training.
The training, set for Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Airport West Hotel, aims to equip young individuals with skills to become effective environmental advocates.
“We are thrilled to partner with the Captain Planet Foundation to promote environmental sustainability and community engagement,” said Eddy Blay, YFM’s Programmes Manager. “As a youth-focused radio station, we are committed to protecting our environment for future generations.”
Lessa Carter-Jones, President and CEO of the Captain Planet Foundation, highlighted the organization’s mission: to inspire the next generation of environmental stewards and foster a deep understanding and love for the natural world.
Founded by media mogul Ted Turner and Barbara Pyle, the Captain Planet Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to environmental education. Its mission aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6, which focuses on clean water and sanitation.
The clean-up event brought together a diverse group of volunteers, including local community members, students, and environmental enthusiasts. Supported by Ecozoil Limited, a leading waste management service in Ghanaand Togbe Ghana, participants collected plastic waste, discarded fishing nets, and other debris from the beach.
This collaborative effort underscores YFM and the Captain Planet Foundation’s shared commitment to environmental sustainability, community engagement, and creating a cleaner, healthier future.
