Ghana’s number one urban-youth radio station, YFM has finally released the awards list for the Y-rated awards scheme. The Y-rated awards scheme was instituted to celebrate the station’s 11 years of providing quality content and entertainment for the Ghanaian populace in November.
Entries for the various categories came from staff of the Y-Triangle of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi and were trimmed by the awards committee. However, the awards scheme was a 100% people’s choice by way of online vote & winners in the various categories all won by popular demand.
The awards scheme achieved the purpose of identifying and awarding musicians in the Ghanaian and the African music industry from 11 highly competitive categories which included; Gospel song of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year, Afro Pop Song of the Year, Group of the Year, Rap Song of the Year, Best Collaboration Song of the Year, African Song of the Year, New Song of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year and a last minute Best Rated Awarded which was added as an honorary award.
Speaking after the final day and coalition of votes on behalf of YFM managers , programmes manager for YFM Accra, Eddy Blay said, “The people of Ghana have solely selected their musical geniuses and this is what we ought to do as a nation. Let citizens be the deciding factor. We all know that, the people don’t lie. Ghanaians were really appreciative of the scheme than we anticipated and voted massively.”
He went on to thank listeners of the station for partaking and making the Y-rated awards successful, and promised to make it better and bigger in the coming years. “The Y-rated awards will never deviate from its core purpose. It is going to be bigger and better we pray”, he added.
