Ghanaian legendary football player Asamoah Gyan has advised Ghanaian musicians, particularly those who are upcoming, to focus on building a reputable brand for themselves.
In an interview on the latest edition of the YLeaderboard Series on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio show with host Rev Erskine, Gyan explained that the way young musicians present themselves to their audience is how they will be perceived by listeners.
He recounted an instance where he was approached by a brand for an endorsement deal. During this encounter, he remained firm on the standard cost for endorsement deals. “I was approached by one brand to do some work and they wanted to dictate how much I should charge; I asked them if they would have given Michael Jordan the same offer.”
Gyan concluded by emphasizing that a musician’s effort to look the part can attract fans, listeners, and even brands, thereby enhancing the relevance of their brand. “As a musician, you should study how things are done in the industry; you should know the dos and don’ts, what you must have, and all. When you start making efforts, people can come in to help you make that statement.”
