Renowned Ghanaian entrepreneur and politician, John Dumelo has admonished Ghanaian youth to cultivate the practice of patience in their endeavours.
Speaking at the maiden edition of the Start Right Youth Seminar under the theme “Investment Opportunities for the Youth: Success Stories, Potentials, and Risks,” John Dumelo highlighted how his foray into farming made him realize the significance of patience.
He indicated that the realization that there is a constant demand for food as food ultimately comes from farmers motivated him into the business. This realization propelled him to explore the agricultural sector, leading to valuable lessons in patience and perseverance.
“Farming taught me patience and youth in this country you need more of that to realize our ambitions,” he said.
John Dumelo however drew a stark contrast between the impulse of placing a bet on a football match and the patient approach required in agriculture.
“This is not about putting 200 cedis on Manchester United hoping that they win against an opponent. Patient is not about a quick 90mins turn around, it is about 90 days turn around if you’re into vegetable farming and varying periods for other kinds like animal raring and the likes,” he added.
He reiterated that his experiences in farming not only provided valuable insights into the agriculture sector but also taught him the essence of waiting for the right time to reap the rewards of his hard work. “Once you harvest, once you’re okay, and people start buying your products or produce, then you realize that it gives you some level of fulfilment and national pride,” he stated.
John Dumelo’s success story serves as an inspiration to the young generation of Ghana, urging them to embrace patience and perseverance in their pursuits.
