Ghanaian singer and songwriter Wendy Shay has secured her first award of the night at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards, winning the Afrobeats/Afropop Artiste of the Year category.
The award marks a significant milestone for the singer, who has remained one of Ghana’s most commercially successful female artistes over the past year through chart-topping releases, performances and international appearances.
Receiving the award on stage, Wendy Shay expressed gratitude to God, the award scheme and supporters of her music journey. “First of all I want to say a very big thank you to my Lord and personal saviour. Thank you TGMA for recognizing me. I’m actually grateful to receive this award because I am one artiste who has been pushing African music to the world,” she stated.
The singer also acknowledged her fellow nominees, applauding their collective efforts in elevating Ghanaian and African music globally. Closing her speech on a unifying note, she said, “We shine together.”
The win further boosts Wendy Shay’s momentum on the night as she remains one of the strong contenders in the highly competitive Artiste of the Year category.
