The event attracted scores of patrons, traders, food enthusiasts, and supporters from various Zongo communities who thronged the market to witness another exciting display of culinary excellence, culture, and community spirit.
Building on the success of the first preliminary competition held at Ayigya Market on May 16, the second edition once again showcased the rich culinary traditions of Zongo communities, with participants competing through authentic local dishes, creativity, presentation, and teamwork.
After a highly competitive contest, Aboabo emerged winners of the second preliminary stage, impressing judges with the taste, presentation, and authenticity of their meals. Tafo Zongo secured second place, while another Tafo Zongo team finished in third place.
The Salafest Cooking Challenge forms part of YFM Kumasi’s annual Salafest celebrations, designed to preserve cultural heritage, strengthen community ties, and provide a platform for Zongo communities to showcase their unique traditions and talents.
Speaking after the competition, Programmes Manager of YFM Kumasi, Nathaniel Osei Kuffour, commended the participating teams and the enthusiastic support from the various communities.
“The level of competition continues to improve with each stage of the challenge. Beyond the food, what stands out is the sense of unity, pride, and cultural expression that the competition inspires. We are delighted by the support from the communities and the quality displayed by all participating teams. Congratulations to Aboabo for an outstanding performance, and we look forward to even more excitement in the next stages of the competition,” he said.
Mr. Kuffour further noted that the competition remains one of the flagship activities of the annual Salafest celebrations and continues to provide a unique avenue for promoting culture, community engagement, and healthy competition among Zongo communities.
