The Planeteer Alliance, the youth arm of the Captain Planet Foundation, is bringing the Earth Summit to Ghana for the first time, with a focus on helping young people better understand and take practical action to protect the environment.
The 2026 Ghana EARTH Summit is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, at Mensah Sarbah Hall, University of Ghana, and will bring together young people and members of the community for a day of environmental education, practical activities and fun.
Organised by the Planeteer Alliance in partnership with YFM Ghana, the Summit will shine a light on everyday environmental issues that often receive less attention, including deforestation, afforestation, waste segregation, composting and urban gardening.
Rather than focusing only on the problems facing the environment, the Summit will demonstrate simple actions that individuals, particularly young people, can take in their homes, schools and communities.
Participants will take part in tree planting, environmental education, waste segregation activities and games designed to make environmental learning practical and enjoyable.
The Summit will be hosted by Nana Akua Dokyiwaa Karikari, a young member of the Planeteer Alliance.
Nana Akua previously hosted Ghana’s maiden Wind Summit in 2025, where young participants were introduced to plastic waste management, source separation, recycling, upcycling and environmental leadership.
Speaking ahead of this year’s Summit, Nana Akua said protecting the environment can begin with simple actions that young people can practise every day.
“Protecting the Earth can start with simple things we do every day. We can plant trees, separate our waste, grow food and turn food scraps into compost. I want other young people to see that they can also make a difference.”
She will return as host of this year’s Summit, helping to create a platform where young people can learn, participate and engage with practical ways of caring for the environment.
The 2026 Ghana EARTH Summit will broaden the environmental conversation beyond what people throw away, highlighting what we grow, what we waste and how we treat the land that supports life.
The event, which runs from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, is free and open to young people and members of the community.
