Petr Cech will hang up his gloves at the end of the season after spending 15 years in the Premier League with Chelsea and current side Arsenal.

The 36-year-old has revealed the current campaign will be his last as he has achieved his targets as a professional footballer.

Cech announced the news on social media by posting a statement to his 1.79million followers.

He wrote on Twitter: ‘This is my 20th season as a professional player and it has been 20 years since I signed my first professional contract, so it feels like the right time to announce that I will retire at the end of this season.

‘Having played 15 years in the Premier League, and won every single trophy possible, I feel like I have achieved everything I set out to achieve.

‘I will continue to work hard at Arsenal to hopefully win one more trophy this season, then I am looking forward to seeing what life holds for me off the pitch.’

Cech has won 18 trophies since arriving in England back in 2004 as a 22-year-old.

The former Czech Republic international played a crucial role in helping Chelsea win their first Premier League title during his first season at Stamford Bridge under Jose Mourinho.

He went on to win three more top-flight titles with the Blues as well as four FA Cups and the League Cup on three occasions during his time at Chelsea.

His most memorable moment came in the Champions League final when he starred in Chelsea’s penalty shootout win over Bayern Munich in 2012.

Cech saved an extra time spot-kick by former team-mate Arjen Robben and then two penalties in the tense shootout which followed.

He also won the Europa League during his time in west London.

The former Rennes shot stopper joined Arsenal for £10million on a four-year deal in 2015.
