After of the official launch of the brand’s debut collection, “GAMUT,” on Wednesday, 5th March, the creative director reflects on his artistic journey, the challenges of being an African designer, and his vision for pushing creative boundaries through the rebranding of dotMARIQ.
GAMUT by dotMARIQ
Over a decade ago, I started my journey of making clothes at university. However, after university, something life-changing redirected my path. It was a good one, though, because I learned much about myself as a creative working in a PR and event firm. I quit after three years to be a freelance creative. I saved up a little and got help from my good friend, which triggered a relaunch of my fashion interests.

Kwasi Marique was born in 2018. I had a lot of ideas coming in, but sometimes, the market dictates what you create if you follow the money. I was boxed into a certain niche. Over time, I knew I wanted to get back to my old self, but most importantly, I needed help managing and running this brand. And the perfect time came.

dotMARIQ became the perfect way to get in the bag of my old self: expressive, not boxed, not restricted. With this rebrand and direction, I aim to explore the resort, casual, and urban sides of my creativity. Most importantly, I aim to have and curate a team that will be focused on raising a brand above the creative director.

GAMUT by dotMARIQ
GAMUT is our debut collection, one that explores the range of what to expect from that dotMARIQ but is not necessarily restricted to the pieces created for this Collection. Over the duration of this year, we have about three more collection releases that will advance the individual pieces of GAMUT in specific and thematic ways.
