Cristiano Ronaldo expressing his desire to leave Real Madrid has left the football bubble reeling, and now club president Florentino Perez has finally broken his silence.
After being accused of tax fraud, the 32-year-old didn’t feel the club supported or protected him which has resulted in Ronaldo asking to leave the Spanish capital.
Since the revelation, he’s put Europe’s elite on alert. Manchester United and Paris-Saint Germain, to name but a few, have been strongly linked with a big money transfer.
And now Perez has reacted to his star player asking for a transfer away from the Bernabeu by reaffirming that Ronaldo is a ‘Real Madrid player.’
“The only thing I can say is Cristiano Ronaldo is a Real Madrid player,” the re-elected president told Spanish radio station Onda Cero via BBC.
“Obviously something has happened, something has affected him, his credibility. I’m sure he will tell us and we will see.”
The Portuguese skipper is currently away on international duty as Portugal contest for the Confederation Cup.
Perez details how he’ll speak to Ronaldo but only once the tournament in Russia is concluded.
“It’s no coincidence that he’s in a very important tournament, the Confederations Cup. It hasn’t finished yet and I don’t want to disturb the Portuguese team. He just wants to be the best player in the world. If Cristiano wants to leave Real Madrid, it won’t be for money.”
Portugal kicked-off their campaign with a 2-2 draw against Mexico as Ronaldo created the opening goal for Ricardo Quaresma.
While Ronaldo remained the main talking point, Perez also gave updates on the transfers of AS Monaco sensation Kylian Mbappe, as well as Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez.
