Ghana’s tourism sector recorded growth in 2025, with international tourist arrivals rising to more than 1.3 million and tourism revenue reaching US$4.34 billion.
Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie disclosed the figures during the Government Accountability Series, where she outlined the sector’s performance and ongoing initiatives.
International tourist arrivals increased from 1,288,804 in 2024 to 1,306,962 in 2025.
Domestic tourism also recorded a 7 per cent increase, rising from 1.68 million visits in 2024 to 1.79 million visits in 2025.
The Minister said the country’s 10 most visited tourist attractions recorded a combined 1,377,588 visitors in 2025, accounting for about 77 per cent of domestic tourism site visits.

The attractions include the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, Kakum National Park, Bonsu Arboretum/Eco Park, Cape Coast Castle, Manhyia Palace, Kumasi Zoo, Accra Zoo, Elmina Castle, Shai Hills Resource Reserve and Aburi Botanical Gardens.
Tourism assets and night-time economy
Gomashie also highlighted measures being taken to preserve and reposition Ghana’s tourism and heritage assets.
She said the Nationalism Park has been reopened following the resolution of long-standing power challenges, while the Tano Boase Sacred Grove Project has been completed.
The Ministry has also strengthened governance and management structures at heritage sites, including the Anomabu Garden of Return and Tetteh Quarshie Cocoa Farm.
In a move aimed at expanding tourism opportunities beyond the traditional daytime model, the Ministry launched “Accra by Night”, a structured night tourism product.
The initiative is expected to create more opportunities for restaurants, artists, transport operators and small businesses while supporting the government’s 24-Hour Economy agenda.
Focus on Ghanaian languages
On cultural development, the Minister announced that three additional standardised orthographies for Ghanaian languages will be launched before the end of the year.
She said the move forms part of the government’s broader commitment to promoting Ghanaian culture and languages, in line with the vision outlined by President John Dramani Mahama and the government’s manifesto commitments.
Gomashie’s presentation formed part of the Government Accountability Series, which seeks to give Ghanaians updates on government programmes, achievements and progress across various sectors.
The Minister’s account highlighted the government’s efforts to grow tourism, preserve Ghana’s cultural and heritage assets, create new opportunities within the creative economy and encourage greater participation in domestic tourism.
