Ghanaian-born, Sydney-based talent, Mike Akox has charged local musicians to back the youth in whatever way possible.
To him, the country can only be made better if musical artistes who have the means and are seen as models, push the youth to greater heights. He believes the collective effort of all can help with the realization of the dreams of many Ghanaian youth.
Sharing the story of how he supported a young lady realize her dream of becoming a model, he stated, “the video for my new song Pumpkin was a freestyle one and featured a kenkey vendor I met a year and half ago.”
In an interview with Kokonsa Kester on Y107.9FM’s Weekend Rush Show, he noted that he went to get fish from the kenkey vendor whom he identified as Gifty.
His discussion with Gifty led him to know she wanted to be a model but that dream had become difficult to realize. Mike Akox promised to use her as his model for his music videos. “I told her I will let my creative director take pictures and videos of her regularly but I couldn’t do that in a whole year. So on the day I was shooting the video for Pumpkin, she had come to the road side with her kenkey and I used her for the video.”
Mike Akox posited, “This is what I want artistes in Ghana to be doing. That’s the grace and support we need to give each other. Let’s support, push and that is it.”
He opened his doors to any youth dealing with mental health issues.
“Just hit me up on my socials if you’re having other problems you want to talk about too. We should keep supporting our own,” he added.
