Ghana’s Doris Quainoo secures podium finish as USF Bulls seal historic five-peat

Ghanaian hurdles specialist Doris Quainoo delivered a clutch performance at the American Indoor Track and Field Championships, helping the University of South Florida (USF) Bulls secure their fifth consecutive conference title.

Quainoo claimed a bronze medal in the women’s 60m hurdles with a time of 8.30 seconds, providing critical points in a team race decided by just 2.5 points.

The Bulls entered the final day of competition at the Birmingham CrossPlex in second place but staged a dramatic comeback to overtake Wichita State. Quainoo’s podium finish was a centerpiece of the Bulls’ defensive effort to maintain their conference dominance.

Her bronze-medal run follows a string of impressive performances this indoor season, including a career-best 8.23 seconds set earlier in February at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Lubbock, Texas.

Her contribution was part of a larger surge by USF’s international talent, including fellow distance runner Mercy Angaamchaab, who took third place in the women’s 800m with a time of 2:09.65.
Quainoo has quickly become a vital asset for head coach Erik Jenkins.

Since joining the Bulls, she has consistently lowered her times, moving from a 9.00-second hurdler in her freshman year to one of the top competitors in the American Athletic Conference.

With the conference title secured, Quainoo and the Bulls now await official selections for the NCAA Indoor Championships scheduled for March 13–14 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

Following her consistent progression this season, the Ghanaian standout is poised to represent the Bulls on the national stage as she continues her development toward elite international competition.
