Former Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has touted himself as the most accessible Information Minister during his tenure in the erstwhile government, despite public criticism over communication gaps.
Oppong Nkrumah made this assertion during an interview with Rev Erskine on YFM’s Myd Morning Radio Show (MMRS). Responding to listeners who expressed concern about a perceived detachment from the public after assuming the role of Information Minister from 2018 to 2024, he explained that his silence on certain matters stemmed from the lack of substantial information to share with Ghanaians.
“The challenge is that sometimes, if you are the spokesperson or Information Minister, you must first have the information to make it available,” he noted. “If you are not getting the answers to the questions you know the public will ask you, you cannot put yourself out there to answer them. It’s not that you don’t want to answer, you don’t have the information.” He cited this as a key reason for his silence on issues of public concern during the NPP administration.
The former state spokesperson emphasized his commitment to keeping Ghanaians informed, maintaining transparency, and communicating state matters in simple terms for the average citizen. “I was hopping from radio station to radio station, granting interviews, sometimes even on Twitter, tweeting back at people who were asking questions. I was very accessible as Information Minister.”
