Renowned Ghanaian content creator and actor Jeffrey Nortey has described himself as a multi-faceted entertainer, whose success in the creative industry is firmly hinged on versatility and the grace of God.
Speaking in an interview with Princess AJ on Y107.9FM’s Dryve of Your Lyfe, the award-winning creative disclosed that his journey into entertainment began as a spoken word artiste. According to him, while his poetry and wordplay were appreciated by a niche audience, he eventually realised the need to evolve his craft to reach a wider audience.
Reflecting on that transition, Nortey explained that he channelled his poetic creativity into one of his most recognised characters.
“Spoken Word, poetry was my side; then I was like I am tired of doing the sun and the moon and the stars because it was not really understood. So I gave that word play and poetry to the character called Dragon and people loved the Dragon.”
He noted that although many people identify him as a stand-up comedian, he does not consider himself one, insisting that his craft extends far beyond comedy.
“I’m not a standup comedian. It’s a special craft, I respect it. People don’t know how to categorize me. I am a spoken word artist, I as Jeffrey Nortey, am an actor and content creator,”
Nortey explained that his ability to seamlessly switch between different creative disciplines is what makes him unique as an entertainer. As an actor, he believes versatility is one of the most important qualities needed to thrive in the profession.
“I believe as an actor, you have that power to do different things and enter different shoes. On set I could be playing a rich man one time and another time is a mechanic.”
Beyond talent and hard work, Jeffrey Nortey believes his journey has been sustained by divine favour. While acknowledging the importance of planning, he maintained that God’s grace has remained the driving force behind everything he has achieved.
“I’m a very spiritual person. I can’t be too strategic. All these things that I am doing is by the Grace,” he noted
