International Institute for Productivity and Public Management Launched

April 28, 2017
in News

The International Institute for Productivity and Public Management (IPPUM) has been launched at an impressive ceremony at the Mensvic Grand Hotel on April 26,2017 to pave way for the official operation of the institute.
The International Institute for Productivity and Public Management (IPPUM) is a private and independent institution set up to promote the productivity agenda in Ghana and other African countries. The institute has the primary responsibility to research, strengthen and disseminate knowledge to stakeholders to augment productivity growth and efficiency management in both public and private sectors of the economy.
The founding president of the Institute who doubles also as the Chief Executive Officer of Fair Wages and Salaries Commission, Mr. George Smith-Graham at the launch disclosed why the establishment of such an Institution.
“IPPUM came about as a result of a need I identified at the public service during my tenure as the CEO, Government having to pay huge sums of money to the public sector. The question everybody keeps asking is how possible it is to link Public Services Pay to Productivity. Research shows that linking pay to productivity is highly possible as there are indicators that can be used to achieve this goal and that is what IPPUM is here to do. The whole idea is to feed institutions with scientific and implementable research work that can help transform their organizations”
He added that “IPPUM will research and translate discoveries into practical procedures to enhance productivity and efficiency in public management. As an Institute we believe that promoting and achieving productivity in the public sector can have a positive spillover effect on other sectors and ultimately drive private sector growth.”
IPPUM also has a foundation that seeks to support graduate students from universities in Ghana who take up thesis topics in the area of productivity and modern public management. The results of these theses will be published and the Institutions that these research covers will be encouraged to implement.
Some dignitaries present at the launch were President of the Association Industries, Mr. James Asare-Adjei, Commissioner at the Public Services Commssion, Mr. Robertson Allotey, President of UTAG and Dr. Harry Agbanu, a representative from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) among others.
As part of the launch, IPPUM in collaboration with FirstBanC and Strabsnet organized its maiden colloquium on productivity and public management dabbed “Moving Ghana to a Higher Middle Income Economy: The Role of a Productive Workforce”. The colloquium also attracted Graduate students from Universities across the country.
