Afro-fusion artist Karym is stepping into a new phase of his musical journey, one shaped by growth, cultural fusion, and a deeper understanding of his identity.
In an interview with Brown Berry on YFM, Karym shared insights into his journey, inspirations, and what fans can expect next.
Karym’s love for music began at just eight years old, sparked by the influence of Michael Jackson. Listening to Jackson’s iconic track “Bad” sparked something in him—an urge to embody confidence and boldness not just in music, but in identity. “I heard ‘I’m bad’ and I wanted to be bad too,” he recalls, describing the moment that planted the seed for his artistic journey.
While living in the United States, Karym shifted much of his focus to school and basketball, temporarily putting music on the back seat. However, his passion for music remained strong beneath the surface.
One of his earlier projects, Karym Of The Krock, paid homage to Kaduna, the Nigerian city that raised him. The project highlighted his roots and featured songs like “Show Me Love,” “Change Am,” “YDDM,” and “Better Me.” Tracks such as “Change Am” carried a strong message to African youth, encouraging unity and action, while “YDDM” stood out as a personal favorite, reflecting his artistic evolution at the time.
Now, Karym is focused on what comes next.
The artist reveals that he and his team are currently working on a new project, expected to feature 11 to 12 songs. While details remain under wraps, the upcoming release promises a more refined and intentional sound, building on everything he has learned so far.
A key part of that growth has come from his time in Accra. Karym credits the city as a major influence on his development, both creatively and personally. “I love Accra,” he shares, emphasizing how the city has helped him discover his sound.
Through this experience, he has realized the importance of blending his background into his music—fusing his Nigerian roots, international exposure, and the vibrant energy of Accra’s music scene. The result is a sound that is not only authentic but also reflective of a broader African and global identity.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming project, one thing is clear: Karym is evolving, and his music is evolving with him.
