Ghanaian digital expert and personal branding coach, Odamea Amaoko has revealed that there is more to social networking platform-LinkedIn than posting achievements and senior-sounding job positions.
The digital transformation expert in an interview on Y107.9FM’s YCampusExpress indicated that a majority of Ghanaian youth have pictured the professional networking platform as one which favors the affluent and individuals of high job statuses – which has discouraged many from reaching in to the countless opportunities it presents.
Sharing insights on the history of LinkedIn, she indicated that creators of the app have made significant adjustments to the app to suite all manner of users and not just the affluent or highly recognized in society. “I joined LinkedIn in 2016. LinkedIn initially was created initially for professionals to reach out to other professionals so it was not really that open. But I’m sure creators of the app realized that, if they keep it as that – making it very rigid, you will not even get activity, so now there are videos and games on LinkedIn .” she explained.
Amoako shared that the algorithm of the professional networking app highlights not just the achievements of users but also their journeys as well. She encouraged all youth to be ambitious and authentic about their career journeys as the way to generate growth. “You are medical doctor, you have a profession that is what we want to see. But because you’ve seen that people who post LinkedIn tips are getting the numbers so you will also do same. That’s why people say LinkedIn is for settings because they see people overbrand themselves when clearly you can use the little things that you are doing.”
