President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a cenotaph in memory of the late Defence Minister, Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, at the Ministry of Defence in Accra. The unveiling formed part of activities marking one year since the August 6, 2025 military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Dr Omane Boamah and seven others.
The unveiling was made on Thursday after a solemn national Inter-Faith Memorial Service for the departed souls where President Mahama and many other government officials were present.
The memorial features a statue of the late minister and is intended to preserve his legacy of public service, patriotism and dedication to Ghana.
The then Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and seven others were killed in a tragic military helicopter crash on August 6, 2025, in the dense forests of the central Ashanti Region. The incident, which took place during an official state mission to address illegal mining, has been described by government officials as a “national tragedy”.
Latest news reports indicate that President Mahama has appointed Honorable Kenneth Gilbert Adjei to take over as the Minister of Defence designate.
