Memphis back in Ghana to help deaf and blind children

Memphis Depay is back in Ghana this week to visit deaf and blind children, and to build on the work of his Memphis Foundation. The first time he visited Cape Coast was in June 2018. Since then, hundreds of deaf and blind children have joined in with sports programmes and improving education for this vulnerable group has been made an investment priority.
In 2018, when Memphis was in Cape Coast, he recorded a video for the single Akwaaba with rapper Winne. All proceeds from that track will go to the work in Ghana.
Memphis has a mission to create life-changing opportunities for blind
and deaf children through education, sports, art and music. Children in Ghana who are deaf or blind are often ignored and even deliberately shunned by their community. These children hardly interact with other
children in the neighbourhood, which means they have few opportunities and their development is often thwarted.
The work of the Memphis Foundation aims to help these children become part of the community, feel welcome, discover their talents and dare to dream again. The emphasis in the activities is that children will be embraced by the community once more.
The programmes that are being developed focus on shared sports activities , making music and on improving accessible education. Football training sessions with deaf and hearing children are just one example. The programmes are developed with local partner
organisations.
