The National Film Authority (NFA) has begun a renewed push to revive Ghana’s cinema culture, embarking on visits to several abandoned cinema venues across Accra.
Led by CEO Kafui Danku-Pitcher and Deputy CEO James Gardiner, the team toured inactive cinema spaces to assess their current state and explore pathways for restoration and reuse.
According to the Authority, the initiative forms part of a broader agenda aimed at bringing back the big-screen experience in Ghana by revitalising key historic venues such as Rex Cinema, Roxy Cinema and Orion Cinema.
The move signals a growing commitment to reposition cinema as a central part of Ghana’s creative economy, with efforts focused on restoring iconic spaces and reconnecting audiences to the theatrical film experience.
