Multifaceted Ghanaian artist Øbed has officially released his debut EP, “SAY YOURS”. The six-track project marks a distinct sonic direction for the creator, leaning into atmospheric production, lo-fi textures, and electronic elements that move beyond standard contemporary African pop frameworks.
As a founding member of the Accra-based creative collective SuperJazzClub, Øbed has long been a key figure in Ghana’s alternative music scene, championing an independent, boundary-blurring ethos that heavily informs this solo debut.
While the project retains foundational Afrobeats influences, it relies heavily on cinematic sound design and layered instrumentation. This is a reflection of Øbed’s established background behind the boards. Rather than adhering to a single genre, the project functions as an exploration of distinct emotional and sonic landscapes.
The first of these, “PARIS,” explores the isolation of being far from home and the friction between personal evolution and past attachments. Øbed has noted that the song stands as his most introspective work to date, capturing the internal discipline required to stay grounded amid displacement. This theme shifts into an examination of interpersonal intimacy on “Twin Peaks,” a track that focuses on the resilience of human connection. The songwriting suggests that physical distance or situational ambiguity becomes secondary when an underlying bond serves as a stabilizing force.
With “SAY YOURS” now active on all major digital platforms, Øbed is expected to balance his burgeoning solo catalog with his collective duties, ongoing production work, and upcoming collaborative projects.
