Paris Saint-Germain ‘fully support’ manager Unai Emery despite Wednesday’s capitulation against Barcelona, the club’s president has revealed.
Barcelona beat PSG 6-1 at the Nou Camp in midweek as Emery’s side threw away a four-goal lead from the first leg and suffered their earliest Champions League exit since 2012.
It was also the first time in 213 European ties that a team had been knocked out of the competition having won the first leg 4-0 – a run stretching back to 1955.
Emery’s future was immediately called into question, with the French club interested in snapping up under-fire Arsenal boss Arsenal Wenger.
PSG president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, was at the Nou Camp on Wednesday and after the final whistle he admitted the defeat was ‘very difficult to accept’.
Ahead of their return to Ligue 1 action on Sunday, however, Al-Khelaifi claimed Emery’s job is safe and the club would support his efforts to improve the squad in the summer.
