Plastic currency payment option the future of business- Founder of Abukay Cuisine

Founder of Abukay Cuisine, Esther Owusu Nkwantabisah, a registered sole proprietor business owner, has disclosed why she decided to introduce the Plastic Currency Payment Option.

Talking about her business, she noted that, they are into making natural fruit juices and savouries which are all FDA approved.

Speaking to Rev. Erskine on Y107.9FM’s Myd Morning Radio Show, she said, “Back in school, I liked trying new stuff so I will always make something and ask my friends to taste and give me reviews. I was working with this private company when I got laid off. So, while at home with a background in consumer science, I decided to play around it.”

She emphasized that growing up she had always been interested in anything that involved recycling because her mother liked to recycle stuff.

“I was also fortunate to go outside the country and I realized it’s something they do. They can actually return their plastics to a convenient store and use it to buy so I thought to myself, how I can infuse this in Ghana. So, I decided to speak to some people about it and they were interested and decided to come on board,” she discussed.

She mentioned Ghana Innovation Hub as one organization which came on board to sponsor and help her launch and achieve this goal.

“So, last year November they sponsored me and helped launch this initiative.”

She explained that, the option gives individuals and organizations the opportunity to buy products with used recyclable plastics.

For people who want to be a part of this, she stated “that all they have to do is to sign on with them so she knows which area and which recycling partner to pair them with.”

“After you make a payment of ghc50 for registration, you get a sack to collect the plastics. The sack is really big and when it’s full it ranges between 55-65kg and with the sack when you call for a pickup it doesn’t come at a charge,” she explained.

She disclosed that, the response so far has been good as she currently has 4 recycling partners and people are gradually buying into the idea.

“So far, I have 20 people signed in and I believe if I talk more about it more people will sign on to it” she added.
