Reggie Rockstone discloses the inspiration behind his ‘La Palm’ hit

Veteran Ghanaian hip pop and hiplife artiste Reginald Yaw Asante Osei, better known as Reggie Rockstone has finally disclosed the inspiration behind his ‘La Palm’ hit featuring budding rapper Vim.

Admitting to the humour and joy he had from the song, the hiplife Grandpapa mentioned that he was inspired by one of his favourite artistes as an upcoming artiste. He mentioned that Redman composed the English version of the song and he decided to compose the Twi version.

Speaking on the Y Leaderboard Series with Princess AJ on Y 107.9 FM, he said; “I come from hip pop and like I said I know some of my hip pop heroes that I met personally and one of my favourite artistes is Redman. He had a song titled ‘Slap the shit out of you’, when I heard this song, I was on the floor. I never laughed that hard, and Red always brought some humour.”

“So, I decided to do a Twi version of that. Because the Twi expression of warning someone you would slap him/her always made me laugh. So, my young brother Vim and I made the song.”

The ‘La Palm’ song identifies some of the pros and cons in society as well as addresses some misdemeanours people in society practice and punish them with Slaps.

The video of the viral video was shot by award-winning video director Prince Dovlo.
