British-born Ghanaian/Jamaican dancer sea has made a grand entrance into the music sphere by announcing the release of her debut single “PEACE RIDDIM”.
“PEACE RIDDIM” sees the dancer cum artiste make a statement on an experimental R&B-Afro-Dancehall record produced by the legend that is MikeMillzOn’Em, where they worked together to welcome us into the world of the UFO.
sea impresses with the same fluidity she moves with, this time coupling it with sultry and airy vocals whilst encapsulating the darkness of the message; a strong way to debut.
“PEACE RIDDIM” is birthed from the raw determination to become more of one’s self. Carried by cinematic and alternative fusions of her heritage, the song is the result of defiance to protect one’s peace of mind.
Pulling from thoughts she often internalises and melodies of pure expression, the lyrics show a hint at layers we are excited to peel back in releases to come. The realisation that confrontation is necessary for growth, sea uses the song’s title to highlight the juxtaposition that real peace is birthed from war and action, stating she will do anything to protect it.
The initial darkness of “PEACE RIDDIM” becomes a beam of light during the chorus, where sea firmly pulls on the strength of her partly Jamaican heritage, and we are greeted with an homage to old-school ragga and dancehall.
This debut single prepares us for the artistry of sea; a soundscape full of depth, expression and cultural amalgamation.
sea is direct, fluid and intentional, committed to showing that pure creativity is best across multiple mediums working together.
