Director of Alliance Française Accra, Hélène Geneau-Okutue, has revealed that individuals who desire to attain proficiency in French can make significant progress within six months of consistent and dedicated learning.
Speaking on Episode 4 of FrancoVybz with host Rev. Erskine, she indicated that proficiency in French has become an important asset in today’s job market, noting that the B2 level is the standard required for individuals seeking to work professionally in the language.
She explained, “The best level you need to be able to work is B2. That is the European standard for those who want to work. That B2 means you have attained a level of independence with the language. You can work in the language, you can understand all the conversations in your field of work.”
Hélène Geneau-Okutue, however, noted that the time required to attain proficiency largely depends on an individual’s ability and commitment to learning the language.
“It approximately depends on each individual with a period of 600 to 700 hours of French.”
She added, “If you dedicate your time to learn French some people can become bilingual by six months.”
The conversation formed part of the fourth episode of FrancoVybz, hosted by award-winning broadcaster Rev. Erskine. The podcast examines the cultural, creative and professional connections between Ghana and the Francophone world, while creating a platform for discovery and exchange among young audiences.
