Ghanaian reggae dancehall artiste and creative director, Epixode has mentioned that award winning dancehall artiste Stonebwoy deserves to win this year’s VGMA dancehall artiste of the year category.
Although he and Stonebwoy were nominated in the same category, he believes Stonebwoy deserves the award more than he does.
Epixode received 4 nominations in this year’s VGMA and deems it an honor being in the same category as Stonebwoy for the dancehall artiste of the year category.
In an interview with Akua Sika on Happy 98.9 FM’s Happy Evening Drive, he said, “I think I tried my best but I can’t also dispute the fact that Stonebwoy worked harder than I did because the categories go beyond music. It includes what the person has done in the dancehall space and I think that last year Stonebwoy was touring, and was still representing reggae and dancehall. Then again, I think the board and scheme know what they look at, what fits and who deserves to win.”
He emphasized that he is fine with Stonebwoy winning especially because he admires him and his work and aspires to reach his level and possibly exceed him.
“So to me, it makes me feel like there’s more work to be done and each year we inch closer. So, if I don’t win and Stonebwoy does, it’s a big win for us all and even he knows I cheer him on. It’s same for any other artiste who wins we’ll cheer the person on. So let the best man win,” he said.
Epixode got nominated in the following categories for the upcoming Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA): Reggae dancehall song of the year, Reggae dancehall artiste of the year, Highlife song of the year and Collaboration of the year.
