Accra’s Alliance Française came alive on August 30th as singer-songwriter Susan Augustt hosted the fourth edition of her acclaimed “Augustt in August” concert, a vibrant celebration of women in Ghana’s alternative music scene.
This year’s theme, “Women, Their Crown, and Earth,” set the tone for an immersive evening of live music and visual storytelling. Susan, backed by her powerful 10-piece Adorkor Band, delivered a stirring performance that blended neo-soul, jazz, highlife and traditional Ghanaian rhythms.
The stage also welcomed a rich lineup of female creatives including Lamisi, Elsie Raad, Apiorkor, Malaika, Alaptawan, and a special performance by The AGISS Band from Accra Girls Senior High School—making the night as empowering as it was musically diverse.
The concert doubled as the launch of Susan’s new six-track EP, “360,” released just a day prior. The project explores music through the five senses while reflecting on mindfulness, spirituality and self-awareness.
Beyond the music, “Augustt in August” reinforced its role as a platform for mentorship and empowerment, offering training in stagecraft, harmonies and live arrangement for emerging female artists. “This is an opportunity for these incredible women to hone their craft with a full 10-piece band, nurturing the next generation of performers,” Susan shared.
Now in its fourth year, the concert has grown into a cultural movement—fusing artistry, identity, and empowerment—solidifying Susan Augustt’s commitment to building sustainable support systems for women in Ghana’s music industry.
