The Black Princesses came from behind to beat Uganda 2-1 in the first leg of their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, setting up a promising return leg in Kampala.
Uganda silenced the home crowd with a well-taken goal in the 32nd minute and held their slim lead through a disciplined first-half display. Ghana, however, came out a different side after the break.
The equaliser arrived in the 58th minute when substitute Priscilla Mensah met a cross with a powerful header to restore parity and reignite the stadium. Ghana continued to press but found Uganda’s goalkeeper in inspired form, with the shot-stopper producing a string of crucial saves to frustrate the Princesses.
Ghana take a 2-1 advantage into the second leg in Uganda, where the Black Princesses will look to seal qualification and keep their World Cup dream alive.
