The number youth and urban radio station in the Ashanti Region, Y102.5FM, is set to bring excitement, flavour and cultural pride to Atonsu Market on Saturday, June 6, 2026, as the next preliminary stage of the highly anticipated Salafood Festival takes centre stage.
The event forms part of YFM’s commitment to celebrating the rich culinary heritage of Zongo communities while promoting creativity, healthy competition and community engagement through food.
The Atonsu preliminary challenge will feature five Zongo communities; Ahwiaa Zongo, Sewaaba Zongo, Ejisu Zongo, Ayigya Zongo and Atonsu Zongo, each competing for a coveted place in the next stage of the competition.
Patrons can look forward to an exciting blend of culture, food and entertainment, with contestants preparing authentic local dishes that showcase the diversity and richness of Zongo cuisine. The event will also feature live music, audience engagement activities, giveaways and interactive experiences designed to create a memorable atmosphere for all attendees.
Speaking ahead of the event, Programmes Manager of Y102.5FM Kumasi, Nathaniel Osei Kuffour, described the Salafood Festival as a unique platform that uses food as a tool for cultural celebration and social connection.
“The Salafood Festival is more than a cooking competition; it is a celebration of culture, unity, creativity and community spirit. Through this initiative, we are showcasing the rich culinary traditions of our Zongo communities while creating opportunities for people from different backgrounds to come together, connect and celebrate what makes our communities special,” he said.
Since its launch, the Salafood Festival has continued to grow in popularity, attracting food lovers, community members and cultural enthusiasts who appreciate the role of food in preserving heritage and fostering unity.
The Atonsu edition promises another exciting chapter in the journey, as communities battle for bragging rights and a place in the next round of one of Kumasi’s most engaging cultural food competitions.
