Y107.9FM, the leading Youth and Urban radio station in Ghana, has wrapped up its week-long Mother’s Day celebration with a lively cookout competition. The event crowned a week filled with activities that honoured mothers and brought families together.
The Y Moms’ Cookout took place on Saturday, 9 May at Legon City Mall, filling the air with music, laughter, and the aroma of delicious meals prepared by mothers who proudly showcased their cooking skills.
Throughout the week, mothers and families joined in a variety of programs, form storytelling session, Generational Gap Game – Genz vs Millennials/GenX, to Community Impact Segment-NGO (Street Aid) activities that aimed to support teenage mothers. YFM also facilitated a guided discussion on their personal journeys, challenges faced (education, stigma, finances and mental health) to inspire responsible decision making among young listeners. Each day carried its own theme, reminding the community of the strength, wisdom, and care that mothers give.
The celebration climaxed with the Moms’Cookout, where mothers proudly displayed their cooking skills. The air was filled with the aroma of traditional dishes, laughter from children cheering their moms, and music that kept spirits high. It was more than a competition. It was a family gathering that celebrated love served hot off the grill.
At the end of the intensive cookout contest, Wemompreneurs emerged victorious, beating the other five (5) teams to take home the coveted crown of being the best group with the ultimate culinary skills. The took home a myriad of prizes from Ginny, Family Tomato, Munchee Biscuits, GC Royal Hotel, Appleman GH, Aladdin Snacks and Kojach Pharmacare.

During the event, every participant received a prize, while winners were honoured with special awards that recognized creativity, effort, and community spirit. These thoughtful gestures ensured that no mother left empty-handed, reinforcing the week’s message of appreciation and unity.

During the cookout, Kojach Pharmacare also took the opportunity to offer free health screening to mothers, and also distributed free toothpaste to them.

The week- long Mother’s Day celebration proved that honouring mothers goes beyond a single day. It created lasting memories, strengthened community bonds, and set a joyful tone for future celebrations.
