Ghana’s number one urban radio station and the youth’s favourite, Y107.9FM, has repeated history as it marked its 13 years of radio excellence with the third edition of the biggest awards ceremony, the Y-Rated Awards, last Saturday.
The Y-Rated Awards is a YFM initiative that seeks to acknowledge Ghanaian artists who have greatly contributed to Ghana’s music industry with their great songs. The event is also part of activities lined up to celebrate the station’s 13-years of existence and entertainment prowess.
The Y-Rated awards, this year, was held at the Best Western Hotel and was hosted by YFM’s very own Winston Micheals and Dorothy Cornelius, with the pretty MzOrstin burning the turntables as she played as the official DJ of the night.
The awards were placed in 13 categories, also to mark the station’s 13years, and the nominations were quite tough, however, the well-deserving artists took home their awards.
The Best Rated Rap Song and Best Rated Song awards went to Black Sherif for his hit, Second Sermon, Best Rated Tape – SEDW by Omar Sterling, Best Rated Group – R2Bees, Nxt Digital Star – Gyakie, Best Rated Video and Best Alte Song – Fancy by Amaarae, Best Rated Collaboration – Kwesi Arthur ft JoeBoy, Best Rated Gospel/Inspirational Song – Praise by Fameye, Best Rated Afro Pop song – Echoke by S3fa, Best Rated Highlife song – Mensesa Meho by Pure Akan, Best Rated Reggae/Dancehall Song – 1GAD by Stonebwoy and the Best Rated Production – Yung D3mz.
Black Sherif and Amaarae bagged home two awards each, making them the highest winning artists for the night.
Of course, as an event organized by the biggest entertainment network in Ghana, it could not go down without performances from some of Ghana’s favourite artists. Gracing the stage with performers of back-to-back hits was S3fa, D-Black, Y Rapture winner, Seki music, Takoradi-based artiste, NeffGee, and Kwesi Arthur also came through to climax the night.
As tradition has it, the whole YFM team came together on stage for the cake-cutting, which is always the final birthday celebration activity for the night.
Programmes Manager of Eddy Blay, said this after the event, “I am grateful to all who have supported us this far, to all our listeners and workers. I am very grateful, Y Rated awards is now a YFM culture and it is here to stay.”
