The production and management staff of Y FM an Accra based private radio station and a member of the Global Media Alliance Broadcasting group yesterday paid a courtesy call on the minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda in his office to brief him about the program and activities put together by the company to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the company.
The highlights of the briefing centred on the sanitation program to be rolled out by the company starting September dubbed Slum Invasion.
According to the Executive members sanitation issues play a key role in their broadcast programs daily other a view to contributing to the the clean Ghana campaign initiated by the ministry. The executive members as part of the program would visit some selected slum areas in Accra and join the residents to organize massive clean up exercises. The team would also be accompanied by a lot of renowned artists in the entertainment and creative industry.
The executive members informed the minister about other social intervention programs the station would roll out to ensure the sustainability of the sanitation exercise as part of their corporate social responsibility.
The sector minister Hon. Joseph Kofi Adda expressed his appreciation to the team and commended them for the laudable initiatives in support of the ministry’s sanitation programs. He encouraged other individuals and groups to emulate the example of the FM station. The minister also briefed the team about the program the ministry has embarked upon to ensure a clean city and pledged the support of the ministry to the team. He asked them to use the power of the media to influence attitudinal change among the citezenry.
Present at the meeting include some Municipal Chief Executives of the Greater Accra region, the chief director of the ministry and some senior staff.. Later, the sector minister held discussions with the Municipal Chief Executives on the preparations towards the launch of the National Sanitation Brigade.
