Gym Instructor and Fitness Advocate, Setor Jinadu has encouraged the public to embrace fitness beyond the walls of the gym, reminding listeners that fitness is accessible to all, with or without the gym.
Speaking on Ryse N Shyne Morning Show with Brown Berry on Y107.9 Fm, the fitness instructor encouraged Ghanaians to abandon the notion that a paid gym membership is necessary to begin their wellness journey addressing the financial barriers preventing people from staying active.
“Some of them fail to work out because they don’t have money for gym subscriptions and one does not necessarily need the gym before he or she can keep fit,” he noted, pointing out that although gym fees have become so high that they can consume up to a one third of a person’s monthly salary.
He suggested that rather than letting cost stand in the way, we should return to simple, accessible forms of exercise like a skipping rope or routines such as walking and running which are also effective ways to stay healthy.
He also acknowledged that not everyone feels comfortable in a gym environment. “There are people who love to exercise on their own, having a walk, a run, and that isn’t bad,” he noted. However, he cautioned that individuals should ensure they are exercising properly and monitoring their progress. “We should ask ourselves if it is enough. We should do it well, get a professional check, a doctor’s report, and see our progress,” he advised.
He encouraged the public to make exercise a lifestyle rather than an occasional activity. “We should seek to keep fit and exhibit the habit of exercising every time. Let it be a part of us,” he said, reminding listeners that fitness is accessible to all, with or without the gym.
