You don’t get to be "common" when you’re a public figure - Lydia Forson cautions

Accomplished Ghanaian actress Lydia Forson shared her thoughts on the challenges of being a public figure and the complexities of navigating public scrutiny while remaining true to oneself

During YFM’s Twitter (X) Space event, held in honour of International Women’s Month, she expressed her belief that as a public figure, one forfeits the luxury of being “common,” as every action and statement is scrutinized by the public.

“You don’t get to be ‘common’ when you’re a public figure,” she noted, highlighting the unusual pressures and scrutiny faced by individuals in the public eye.

She shared personal insights into her journey as both an actress and an advocate, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and passion in driving meaningful change.

She expressed her belief that speaking out on social issues is not driven by a desire for attention or validation but stems from a genuine sense of responsibility and empathy.

“I’m no expert on politics and policies,” she remarked, “but I’m just a woman and just a Ghanaian, and I feel things very passionately.”

Reflecting on her experiences in the entertainment industry, Lydia Forson emphasized the importance of resilience and self-assurance.

“It’s easy when you set out to do something,” she explained. “I’m very confident as an actress because it’s something I set out to do. I understand what it comes with.”

The space themed ‘Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress,’ aimed to amplify the voices of influential women empowerment activists, providing a platform for discussions on advancing gender equality and female empowerment.

The X space conversation provided a platform for Lydia Forson and other influential women to discuss strategies for advancing women’s rights and fostering an environment where women can thrive.

Participants engaged in dialogue about the need for greater recognition of women’s contributions and the importance of creating supportive frameworks for women to pursue their goals.
