Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Psychological Association, Joy Anima Debrah, has revealed per her knowledge in psychology that cyberbullying is basically a power-play game to the perpetrators.
Before detailing on this, she explained cyberbullying as basically harassing or intimidating people digitally or electronically, specifically by leaving negative comments under people’s posts or in their inbox.
Joy then proceeded to detail on how cyberbullying is a power-play game. According to her, people who cyberbully other people only do it because when they are able to intimidate their victims with their words or posts, it gives them a feeling of power or superiority over them.
She added, “If you look at regular bullying, you realize that there is probably a bigger boy who is in class with smaller boys or girls and the person seeks to either physically or verbally intimidate them. The main purpose is to make them fear him and that makes him feel good”.
The psychologist shared this information during a phone interview with e.TV Ghana’s host, Mercy Bee the Ekumfi Princess on the Girl Vibes show discussing the topic ‘Managing the growing phenomenon of cyberbullying.
