Ghanaian gospel musician Patience Nyarko has stated that marriage is not meant for everybody and has adviced society against putting pressure on unmarried women to find spouses.
In an interview with Rev. Nyansa on Nsem pi on Happy FM , the gospel musician revealed that the Ghanaian society has made marriage seem as the ultimate and that every woman must be a wife. According to her, marriage is not for everyone. If you find a husband, praise God. But if not, be patient. Do not stress yourself and end up making wrong choices. Society’s stigmatization of unmarried women does more harm than good to women.”
She stated that as a result of wanting to avoid any social stigma associated to spinsterhood, women are under tremendous pressure to find a spouse at any cost. They end up making wrong choices which may change the course of their lives sometimes negatively.
” Some women have ended up in prison,
Some have lost their sanity while others have lost their lives as a result of staying in abusive marriages. In as much marriage is good, I want encourage young women to take their time and not rush into any marriage because they are becoming old and the urgent need to fit into society’s standards.
In response to questions around her marriage, the ‘Obi Nyanime’ hitmaker stated that although marriage is not meant for everybody, she will definitely be married and have kids at the right time.
