The Chief Executive Officer of Brandmeister, Bernard Kafui Sokpe, has revealed that majority of content creators in Ghana are not paid much by content creating platforms.
The entrepreneur stated that despite the tons of creatives all over Africa, its contribution to the creative industry globally is at the bare minimum. “When you look at the creator economy, it’s about a trillion dollars’ worth globally; Africa contributes just about 1%.” he noted.
He highlighted that a lot of iconic content creators in Ghana are not paid by the content creating platforms they work on but rather make money from gigs through their fame and how popular they are. “A lot of TikTokers who are big in Ghana are famous and have the numbers but they are not getting paid through TikTok; It’s their fame they are using to get gigs,”
He also expounded in an interview on Y107.9FM’s “RyseNShyne” that countries in other continents monetize their content and make money off the platforms.
He premised these nuggets on the absence of the appropriate infrastructure to support Ghanaian creatives and their craft which is a prerequisite component to assist them in widening their fanbase and gaining a global audience.
