His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will officially commission the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park tomorrow, Tuesday, July 4, 2023.
The completed refurbishment and developed Ghanaian historic monument, sums to approximately $3.5 million dollars.
The memorial park which was built by the late ex-President, Jerry John Rawlings was dedicated to Ghana’s first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah who paved way for national independence and sovereignty of Ghana, to honor him and serve as a mausoleum for the remains of the First President and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah.
The park which was opened to the public in 1992 has received visitors from all over the world numbering about 98,000 each year, to pay homage to the Ghanaian icon, learn about his life, and legacy. The Park is one of the 10 most visited sites in Ghana.
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stood as an advocate of tourism and Ghana’s ability to create revenue secured a 40 million U.S Dollar loan facility in 2018 from the World Bank through the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture to; strengthen and enable the tourism environment; to address constraints most likely to have a transformative impact on the sector; develop tourism sites and destinations; and finance the costs of tourism enterprises and business development services and training.
On 19th July 2022, the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Awal cut the sod for the rehabilitation and redevelopment of the commencement of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park and Mausoleum.
