Ghanaian award winning blogger, Kobby Kyei, has advised the youth to stop idolizing money and being obsessed with social media engagements.
Speaking on the theme “Investment Opportunities for the Youth: Success Stories, Potentials and Risks” at the maiden edition of the Start Right Youth Seminar organized by MYO Global and YFM, he stated that a lot of Ghanaian youth idolize money and this hinders their progress.
Using himself as an example he said, “Growing up, my mum used to tell me good name is better than riches, and I never understood that quote until I grew up. I noticed that the impact we create as humans beings will eventually bring that money we need.”
He mentioned that when he started blogging and wasn’t posting all the trendy stuff on social media like other bloggers, they (bloggers) before him discouraged him and kept telling him he would not make any money.
“But I kept on doing it and today, with these stories I’ve done, the places I’ve been to, the countries I’ve traveled to and the diplomats that I’ve met, I didn’t get the opportunity to move into those spaces because of money but because of the impact I have made,” he noted.
Although a believer that money is good, he advised the youth not to let money be their main focus, but rather keep working hard and eventually the money will follow.
“The fact that you don’t get enough engagements on social media does not mean people are not watching you. Keep pushing your works out there,” he advised.
