Ghanaian female vocalist and actress, Jane Afia Boafowaa Awindor identified as Efya Nokturnal in the music industry has advised fellow female musicians to hold on to their true identity as they embrace stardom and popularity.
In an interview on Y97.9FM’s ShoutsonY with host, Rahm Besia x Dj Suraka she described career as a journey to greatness which has presented her with her fair share of ups and downs. “It has not been easy; especially being an independent artiste. By God’s grace I have been able to maintain, be consistent for 16 years; I am on a journey and as long as I keep going, everything will be fulfilled.” she said.
Efya admitted that the fame in the creative industry has a way of causing stars to lose their true identity and conform to anything presented to them. “Regardless of the fame and everything, you still have to be yourself; I think it’s always better to be original so that you are not put into a box to comply to certain things that might not go right with you.”
“I’m not Efya all the time, sometimes I’m just Jane, living life like a normal Ghanaian girl; I am able to balance and maintain my decorum so that I don’t lose my true identity; People get carried away as celebrities but I maintain my decorum and try my best to be who I want to be and not what people want me to be.” she explained
As one who stays true, Efya Nokturnal believes there are lives that must be touched exclusively by her. And advised all other female industry players to promote themselves with their true identity and be unique in their own way.
