Renowned Ghanaian DJ Michelle Yeboah, popularly known as TMSKDJ, took a trip down memory lane during a compelling conversation on YFM’s Twitter space held to commemorate International Women’s Month.
Reflecting on her journey as a female DJ, TMSKDJ shared her admiration for YFM being the trailblazers who paved the way for women in the industry.
In a heartfelt statement, she remarked, “It’s full circle for me right now looking at the platform we’re having this conversation on. When I started 10 years ago, the first female Ghanaian DJ we all knew at the time was DJ Kess.”
TMSKDJ reminisced about her high school days, recalling how she would go to great lengths to listen to DJ Kess and Jeromie, later DJ Kess and Caroline.
She expressed how these female DJs fascinated her and served as inspirations during a time when pursuing a career in DJing as a woman seemed daunting.
“The first time I told someone I wanted to be a DJ it sounded like that wasn’t possible for a woman especially in Accra,” she revealed. However, hearing DJ Kess on the radio gave her hope and reinforced her belief that her dream was attainable.
TMSKDJ’s journey exemplifies the progress made by women in the Ghanaian DJ scene, thanks to the trailblazers who shattered stereotypes and paved the way for future generations.
