Multiple Award-winning TV and radio personality, Lady Mrs. Eleanor Effe Amanor, popularly known as ‘Mama Effe’, host of ‘Obra’ programme on Nyira FM/ Adom TV, has shared personal details about her journey into the media space
The media authority, who possesses some Kente, a Ghanaian fabric made of hand-woven silk and cotton strips, named after her, described how she moved from Bogoso to Kumasi in 1997 in order to attend Bible school top-ups. It was there that she met an ICGC pastor, which is how her media career began.
In an interview with Abena Kay, on #PinkOnY, Lady Effe Amanor revealled that she has been a professional speaker since 1997.
According to Mama Effe, it all began when her children began taking vacation classes after moving to Kumasi, giving her more time to engage herself in talking and then she met a man of God who introduced her to radio.
“When I met Pastor Frank Opoku Amoako, who served as a pastor at ICGC, he told me, ‘I really like how you carried yourself at that programme.'” I replied, “Okay, thanks,” Lady Mrs. Amanor revealled.
She went on, “So, the next time we crossed paths, he asked if I had heard of Joy FM, to which I said that I hadn’t. That was the beginning of my case, she further detailed with a smile. “He told me Joy FM is in Accra & the sister station is coming to Kumasi, so I would want you to accompany me there to have a programme.”
The bubbly “Obra” anchor emphasized that, while moving to Kumasi, she never had any prior plans or idea that she would be a radio host.
She recalled beginning her career on Luv FM, a privately owned radio station in Kumasi that is owned and operated by the media group company Multimedia Group Limited, as the pastor’s assistant on the marriage programme “Aware3 Mu Nkomo,” which aired from 10 p.m. to 12 midnight
She described how the radio station’s administrators finally came to the conclusion that she was qualified for staff member position, saying, “They said they were going to have lady Betty from the regional office host a daytime programme. The woman claimed to have never spoken on radio or presented in front of an audience, according to my boss, Dasty Wayne. Dasty then came to my house to implore me to host the programme, and that is how I started ‘Masem Ni’.
She mentioned that she took her time learning how to present on radio, and that her producer at the time, the general manager, was very helpful in conducting a lot of research for her. As a result, she didn’t harbour any fear when she began hosting “Masem Ni,” which has since changed its name to “Obra” on Nhyira FM.
