A Youth Activist of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Alswel Annan, has urged the nation’s youth to prioritize putting Ghana first over political expediency.
According to him, it is high time the next political generation puts an end the nature of allegiance to party of nation.
“Our challenge is that we pay more attention to the parties than the country Ghana. Both the NPP and NDC have been in power and their participation and activities show that we hold allegiance to the party more than the nation,” he said as part of his opening remarks for an X Spaces Conversation on YFM.
He added that very often, a sympathizer of a political party sees nothing bad with the wrongs and ills done by leaders or persons affiliated with their parties. “If a person belonging to one party does wrong and is prosecuted, you will see the youth of that party embarking on demonstrations and demanding for the person’s release”.
Alswel indicated that politicians have taken Ghanaians for granted because they are fully aware that when they do any wrong, members of their party will rise to their defense regardless of the wrong done.
Addressing the galamsey menace destroying the country’s water bodies and forest reserves, the
young politician mentioned that the fight against galamsey should not be politicized.
“We don’t have to politicize sensitive issues in the country. We must know that it is Ghana first. We need to pay more homage to Ghana as a nation than our political parties.”
In celebrating International Day of Democracy, Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC), organized an X Spaces themed, “Our Voice. Our Future: Celebrating Democracy,” to highlight the importance of amplifying youth voices in democratic processes.
