FOCOS Orthopaedic Hospital will hold a one-day workshop on joint disorders in collaboration with four facilitators on November 26, 2016, at their facility in Pantang, Accra.
The hospital in collaboration with four Specialists: Dr. J.A Ogyadu, Dr. G. Ofori-Amankwaa, Dr.Rufai Mahmud and Dr. M. Amissah-Arthur, will train participants as part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programme.
“Our core mandate as a hospital is to educate and train Doctors in modern trends and approaches in the profession,” said Dr. Rufai Mahmud. He continued to highlight FOCOS Hospital’s commitment to the development of Orthopaedic healthcare delivery in Africa. “FOCOS Hospital has over the years impacted knowledge and skills to many Specialists across the globe,” he added.
The workshop is the second in the 2016 edition of the CPD, the earlier one was held in July, 2016 and participants were trained in Spine Disorders. This month’s workshop, which is scheduled to run from 9am to 2pm will focus on topics like inflamatory artheritis, management of arthritis, surgical management of joint disorders, managing joint pain in primary care, total knee replacement.
Commenting about the event was Dr. G. Ofori-Amankwaa, who is also a Specialist at FOCOS Hospital said, “Practitioners should be equipped with skills in joint care, because not all joint issues need to be addressed by the Orthpaedic Surgeon”. He further stressed on the workshop’s importance to Primary Care Practitioners. “If Primary Care Practitioners can identify and manage joint issues well, they may not get out of hands and that is one skill we will equip participants with, at the workshop,” he added.
FOCOS Hospital is one of the few specialist orthopaedic hospital in Ghana and has also carved a niche for itself in across the globe in terms of training. The hospital is a subsidiary of the Foundation of Orthopaedics and Complex Spine (FOCOS), a non-profit organization established in 1998 by Dr. Oheneba Boachie-Adjei and as an auxiliary of the foundation.
