2017 BET Awards nominee Mr Eazi was on YFM’s Ryse and Shyne to talk about his music, BET Awards nomination and managing his cross border stardom.
Touching on the recent social media debates involving Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy in relation to the BET Awards, the Leg Over hitmaker disclosed;
“I tweeted this one day ‘If you don’t support your own. If you don’t rate your culture, someone else will take it, package it and sell it to you at a premium price. I think that’s whats happening to Ghana. I keep saying this and even got lambasted online. The sound source is heavy from Ghana, everyone is singing about Shitor, Nana, Ohemaa, Odo meanwhile this is where its from. Kumasi, Accra, Tema. Because there is division internally, Ghanaian artist are not able to sell this properly because you have to come as united front.
“It might surprise its the same thing in Nigeria, forget all the false tweets and false show of support, there is no unity but at least in the open there is the fake support. Even if Ghanaian artists were doing fake support, it will do something. There is so many great artists out of Ghana but I sit in meetings with Apple, Spotify and because they know I have Ghana as well, they ask me what’s happening in the Ghanaian music scene because they don’t know what is happening. That means something is wrong. May be they might know one or two artist from Ghana and those artists might not be big-ing up their brothers.
“I was in a three day recording session with Diplo and we ended up recording 12 songs. I started to show him Shatta Wale, Fancy Gadam and many other Nigerian acts.”
